Afros Are Aerodynamically Flawless
Those were the days.
I remember working at the University of Regina’s Carillon student newspaper (where Tanis wrote horoscopes, hilariously). I fancied myself a capable album reviewer back in the day, and after hearing At The Drive-In’s Relationship of Command I was compelled to write up a review and submit it (which sadly still exists over at punknews.org — remember, I was young). It’s an album that bristles and crackles with energy, and I still think “plastic rage” is an accurate description of the total package.I’d always heard about how incendiary and explosive the band’s live show was, but sadly this clip is the closest I ever got to actually witnessing such phenomenal insanity. I’ve seen the Mars Volta a couple of times since, and friends it’s not even close to the same thing. One of the most unfortunate break-ups in recent years, though they did manage to leave behind a pretty flawless catalogue.Enjoy this ATDI mix tape, a testament to a young band too great to stay together.

iTunes: does a pretty good job of covering their discography
Fearless Records: has most of their stuff re-released. Check out some stuff by Portugal The Man while you’re there.

I love ATDI too, but I still think “Frances the Mute” is the best thing Cedric and Omar have ever recorded. That album continues to blow me away even though I must have listened to it hundreds of times.
I would have loved to see ATDI live, though, that’s for sure.
